For the Money

MrBouzouki A great introduction via this EP to a voice that always seems to soar, angelic, fragile and beautiful.

'For the Money' has a Led Zeppelin Kashmir vibe to my ears and Nic's voice demands attention as it weaves around the beat.

If purchased you are also supporting mental health charities which is a bonus in these times.

Rapt Moving, delicate and introspective. As always, Nic Evennett's voice washes over the listener creating an incubated space I didn't want to leave. Favorite track: Crystal & Crime.

Things of consequence Make such perfect sense. And once again, two and three make five... Such pressings on your time, Ambition's not a crime. Holoparasites are pretty when they thrive. 'Grace can't pay the rent', She's broken and she's spent. But underneath she is made from gold. This sparkling hinterland Put logic in your hand, Gave all herself so you could trade her soul. The good will surely come, Your swindling undone... We still get to taste What you wouldn't pay for. The power became mine, The notes fell off the line - They won't dance while you are In it for the money. Insincerity Made a fool of me. We fell for that one once too often. You painted my blues red, The colours ate your head To find your heart and make it soften. The good will surely come, Your swindling undone. We still get to taste what you wouldn't pay for. Your powers become mine, The notes slid off the line... They won't dance while you are in it for the money.

Softly 04:15
I'm on the edge of the edge of the world, Falling, calling, closing and curled. Wading through dreams trying to hide from the drums, Wake me, shake me, before the rain comes. Softly, sing to me. Softly, sing to me. Everyone knows that still waters run deep, Drinking, sinking, the secrets you keep. Changers and strangers cut paths through the soul... Why be complete when complete isn't whole? Softly, sing to me. Softly, sing to me.

Neither the time or the space, Neither the good or the good grace. Caught in this middle and wildly free, Known at this distance and too close to see. Sensational Sensational Crystal and crime halted our tongue, Breathing was mine while they held my lung. Caught in this middle, falling outside. We were the pure and still purified. Sensational. Sensational. (we turned to the shore, tears turned to water...)

This album is a little collection of the work Nic has done with the brilliant FL Souto, whose beats she fell in love with some time ago and has repeatedly stolen ever since. The tracks explore being lost and found, high and low, how we handle those people who are less than kind to us and should know better, how we embrace those who are kind and don't know they are enough, and a few thousand other emotions thrown in for good measure.

The bonus track needs little explanation but there was a curious set of circumstances that brought it to life. Though Nic's lyrics are normally a stream of consciousness that only make sense after the event, Crystal and Crime, originally meaning something quite different, subsequently appeared in a dream, arranged for strings this time. During this peculiar dream, a whale swam around Nic. When she woke up, it somehow felt like there was a whale somewhere telling her something. (We said she was mad, didn't we? We did.). The track and this arrangement was born.

All three main tracks feature the wonderful beat work of FL Souto. Thank you so much, Fabio, for letting me steal your beats, stretch them, snip them up a bit, turn them upside down and sideways. You're a star. X

Due to an unforeseen issue with creating these CDs from home, and Nic being a complete idiot, the limited edition CD will be delayed by a couple of weeks while she asks clever people to make it for her. The digital download will, of course, still be available, and if you would like Nic to send on a CD to you, please contact her at:
